Excellent Modern Furniture Design with the Le Corbusier 2 Petite Lounge Sofa People commonly remember Le Corbusier as the creator of the famous Villa Savoye in France and other modern buildings around the world, but for someone with a working knowledge in modern furniture the Swiss-French architect is also credited for making several furniture designs that were to be the precursor of 20th century modern furniture. Among these designs is the Le Corbusier 2 Petite Lounge Sofa. If you are thinking of getting a comfortable sofa and a piece of modern history in your living room at the same time, the Le Corbusier 2 or LC2 Petite Lounge Sofa would be a very good option. Part of the extensive Petite Lounge collection, the Petite Lounge Sofa is a two-seater couch consisting of an external steel frame and black leather seat and cushions. Le Corbusier designed the sofa in 1928 and was to complement the LC2 Petite Lounge Armchair. The sofa is also among several designs Le Corbusier made in collaboration with his cousin Pierre Jeanneret and renowned French designer Charlotte Perriand. As with his most of architectural designs, Le Corbusier’s LC2 Sofa is minimalist in construction. The external frame of the sofa is made from chrome-plated tubular steel, although some reproductions produced today are made with corrosion-resistant stainless steel polished to a chrome-like finish. And to complement the frame’s metallic aesthetic, the polyurethane and down feather cushions are covered with soft black leather. In addition, the Le Corbusier 2 Sofa also features a set of strong elastic straps at the base for added support. The Le Corbusier 2 Sofa is also noted for being one of few Le Corbusier furniture pieces to be included in the furniture design collection of the prestigious Museum of Modern Art in New York. The sofa as well as the collection it belongs to have also been displayed in various museums and art exhibitions around the world. |
